Washes Over Me I've been quite busy recently finishing up work for my current show Washes Over Me showing in Charleston, SC at North Charleston City Gallery. ( Phone: 843-740-5854 ) It was a bit of a change from my more detailed smaller pieces to larger, looser, more expressive works. Some of the things that cycled through my mind while painting was the distancing that social media has caused...not just separating people around the world, but often under the same roof. Though there is so much good that technology brings there is always the flip side of the coin. We are finding ourselves unable to communicate, unplug, enjoy the natural world, breathe and see things for what they really are instead of the snapshot presented. There was also lots of music, B movies, and hooping. If you get a chance, head over to the North Charleston City Gallery and see the following up close and personal. - Rachel North Charleston City Art Gallery The following are al l 22"

February has been very busy art wise, which has definitely kept me from focusing on the weather (Yuck) To keep from writing an extremely long post, I will split the events up as best I'm able. So let us begin with the Small Works show in Lake City, SC (home of Artfields) created by the Florence Arts Alliance. Though I did not bring home a prize, it was an honor to be juried into this show. There are some really cutting edge pieces to be seen. And to think such makers exist only a few miles away creating in their little studios or on kitchen tables or wherever they are able is thrilling. Below are a few images I was able to capture. photo by Rachel Jones photo by Rachel Jones photo by Rachel Jones photo by Rachel Jones Not only was this the top winner, it also sold. Great night for this artist photo by Rachel Jones photo by Rachel Jones ( a shot of my greatest fan, the Mr.) photo by Rachel Jones Did you spot my two pieces?

I think this may be one of (if not the ) largest painting I've done of late. It is an oil on birch panel. I had a great deal of fun working with the multiple figures and a different color palette. Also creating an atmosphere in the negative space was a fun challenge. It may not be visible here, but in one of the latest touch ups there are hints of pinks. That was new for me. I've never really been tempted to use pastels, however they really complimented the coolness of this one. The more I play, the more I learn. This one will be available soon after a few more touch-ups. Also I've added a few little items in AVAILABLE PAINTINGS at great prices. Original Art Really does make great gifts! As they say.... "Buy art to stare at for when your phone/tablet/tv dies" It really is priceless. So often I will look at several pieces I've collected over the years and see something completely different than on a previous look. It is a purchase that keeps on giving. Qui
