Last night, our local House of Blues hosted a dinner for the Artist of the Year 2012- a project initiated by Grand Strand Arts and a host of others. Many of our paintings are decorating walls in the restaurants on the Barefoot Landing property in hopes of not only making locals and tourist alike aware of the many artists around, but also to help boost the revenue of some of us "starving" artist in this dire economy. How generous and kind. Later It Will Grow Into... from one of the lines of the torn pages.
We did live paintings in several of the participating venues. Here I am with the winner Sybil A and our collaborative piece. It was the first time in quite a while that I painted with someone. I forgot how exciting and enjoyable it can be working alongside another painter, even with our completely different styles. Sybil with her lighter content and me bringing my 'doom and gloom' (as was commented on by my other half throughout the evening). However, it worked for us. We were focusing on new beginnings and new chapters. Unfortunately, this photo does not show the collage pages beneath it. In honor of whatever may come, we called this piece
I can not count the amount of times I've attempted to do a painting a day and somewhere along the way...well, you know. Basically it did not happen. This time, I decided to actually join a group of painters doing so on http://lesliesaeta.blogspot.com/ . So we shall see if the camaraderie will make a difference and keep me on track. I'm off to a good start. I am organized. I decided that week one would be my version of several postcards I've collected from all over the world. The first is a postcard advertising the film The Last September. I know it stars Maggie Smith but, I've had it so very long that I actually can not remember anything about it or even if I've seen it. But I thought it would be appropriate for this 30 Day Challenge in September. I used Acrylic on Watercolor Paper. I've been working on loosening up and not worrying so much about the little details or I'd never get a painting done in a day. So hopefully this challenge will not only keep me ...
