On Show

 This month, We Have Been Found Out and Whisper 1 ventured out to a couple of exciting even. 

Florence Regional Arts Alliance held its10th  Annual Small Works show. These shows are great for first time or seasoned collectors. There is always space for these little creations with big impact. This show is still on view until October 9 at HopeHealth Streater Community Center, 301 North Dargan Street, Florence, S.C. Whispers 1 is part of a triptych.

Georgetown held their 4th Annual Art & Wine Walk. This is an art extravaganza with live painting events, art and craft booths, living art, music and of course… wine. This community event houses the juried pieces in main street businesses to be viewed. My piece, We Have Been Found Out was hosted by the Gullah museum. (I learn something new every time I visit there). It was awarded the 2nd Place prize. It is always rewarding (no pun intended ) when fellow artist appreciate what you create. Measuring at 36” X 48” requires a little more wall space than my 5” X 5” piece in the small works show. Feel free to contact me about adding either of these, or any other, to your collection. Shows are a great opportunity to see what fellow artist are creating and hearing all of their inspiring stories. Can’t wait to get back into the studio.

Deep Dive

 I thought this would be a great opportunity to do a Deep Dive into a painting I recently finished.  I wanted to create a piece of art and a time capsule of  the things that currently occupied my mind during the process. Number One: The Macdonald Sisters. Margaret and Frances Macdonald were two Scottish sisters who were instrumental in the early days of the Glasgow School of Art. They make for a very interesting read.  There are many aspects of their process  I admire,  but I especially liked the painting on raised details.  By using QoR watercolor ground on panel, I already had an interesting texture.  I next wanted to take it to the next level in their style when they painted jewels and curves.  There was more originally, but I brought it back to what you see pictured below.  After all… I only wanted a "nod" not a copy.  Detail by Rachel Jones Number Two: Vincent van Gogh letters.  I love handwritten letters. We Fell Into A Wanderlust

We Fell Into A Wanderlust is a little series I’ve been  playing around with for a very long time. It acts as a muse in itself, mirroring real and imagined parts of my existence and those I know. It borders on full awareness and hypnagogia. Here are two of the latest. They are currently available through  Art Harbor Gallery  in beautiful Georgetown. Day Five! OK, I should not really be too excited about day five since I did not actually Paint today, BUT.....I did art related stuff. I've lost my voice (husband has smile on face) and running slight fever while coughing profusely. So actually painting was not an option. However, I managed to drag my bones out of bed for  a moment to deliver paintings to a couple of guys who asked me to do a mixture for their new offices http://www.rdytogo.com/ . They come up with great new apps and  recently even got to ring the NASDAQ bell! VERY talented young guys. These web designers and needed something to entertain their array of clients as they sit in the conference room. This is what I came up with and they were tickled pink ( my description and what a painter always wants to see when they are told to do "whatever it is that you do").
