BIO and AWARDS

rachel jones

“I’m not just painting a figure-
I’m painting about the figure”

Though born in SC, Rachel Jones has also called London, Norfolk, England, and Dominican Republic home. Though beginning her formal training in photography, she later found painting better suited the aesthetic and language she was after. Rachel teaches workshops and privately.  She has won several awards, is a recipient of a SC grant, and collected nationally and internationally. Rachel Jones paints in oils and watercolors and relies on floriography, text, collage, and symbolism to complete her richly layered works. The works often feature figures interwoven with flora and fauna focusing on the search for belonging,  human complexities,  and the natural world.  Jones says, “There is far more that unites us than separates us.”
