Rachel Jones and Art

Well, It is obvious I've not held to my "Painting a Day" OR my "Blog a Week" goals....But in my defense, I have my father-in-law visiting from England and for an older gentleman, he really really really likes to be on the move at all times. It's great, but leaves little time for painting. HOWEVER, there was a major UEFA match on today which meant several hours of uninterrupted painting time. (That is a major football/soccer event for all of you NOT in the know) On TheTroddenPath.Ning.Com site, there is a free group to join that encourages one to create what one can within 20 minutes. Whatever you do....set a timer...begin..."ding"...Stop. And what you have is what you have. It is freeing, it is Fun and it is stress free. I really enjoyed it and wondered why I did not begin sooner. I must admit, that by #5 things began to go downhill a little, but even THAT was a little insightful. Here are some of my results. Yesterday, I took part in a painting event to benefit the Culinary Arts Institute. The event was the plan of Grand Strand Arts , Croissants Bistro and Bakery , and Coastal Uncorked Wine. We were all to create a piece using wine The first piece was a watercolor-esque creation on that turned out very interesting. However, it was really windy. So whoever finds my piece, I say, "Enjoy." My second attempt below included wine, acrylic, and canvas. My hands began to freeze before I finished, but an under painted painting is always better than an over painted painting, right? All pieces were auctioned off in aid of the Institute.       My little wined out dancer...R Jones and This bottom great piece was done by Meganpixels Parker I just loved it. One really needs to walk around it to get it's full impact, but this photo will have to do.  

Acrylic on Canvas painting by Rachel Jones   Still working on this one and haven't a title as of yet. I was venturing into knife painting. I kept going back to the brush but still experimented enough with the knives to realize how freeing and spontaneous it was. I shall continue tomorrow and hopefully have better success and stick with it. Everyday is a learning experience and a journey into something new. I will be extending the February "week" sale into the February "month" sale!

Last night, our local House of Blues hosted a dinner for the Artist of the Year 2012- a project initiated by Grand Strand Arts and a host of others. Many of our paintings are decorating walls in the restaurants on the Barefoot Landing property in hopes of not only making locals and tourist alike aware of the many artists around, but also to help boost the revenue of some of us "starving" artist in this dire economy. How generous and kind. Later It Will Grow Into... from one of the lines of the torn pages. We did  live paintings in several of the participating venues. Working on my new 'fairy tale' inspired series for a group show in Feb which will focus on the things women do in the name of beauty, or fame, or whatever... even if it is to their detriment. Just getting started and having a little fun. Here is Sleeping Beauty in progress.
