PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARD 2015 A Few Weeks Have Passed. I've been a little more up to date on the Instagram page. https://www.instagram.com/rachel_jones_and_art/ There has been some painting but more so lots of planning for future projects. It is feast or famine when it comes to ideas. So now to take them from the drawing board and into reality. As I am learning this brilliant thing called painting, I experiment with different techniques and style constantly. I've learned so many over the years. I'm even applying what would be considered exclusive watercolor techniques to my oil painting. It all ends up in the soup. Some I am more comfortable with...some more pleased with the final result. It all goes towards developing a signature style. I'm told by many they recognize my paintings from a mile away. So I'm well on my way. But I realize there is still much work to do, much practice, much trial and error and much change. It is all part of the game. Here is the latest oil I finished in an unfinished way. I mentioned over a week ago that the Fall Art show for the Seacoast Art Guild was about to happen. Well, living in South Carolina, we had a little flood action that brought us to a standstill and cancelled the show. Of course with all the devastation, an art show was the least of our worries. However, we rallied together and had the show a week later. I always find the shows exciting because some amazing cutting edge stuff comes out of the woodwork as if they have been hibernating most of the year. This year was no exception. I often use it as an opportunity to do a little experimenting myself, stretching out of my comfort zone. I did a painting of my husband. As mainly a painter of women, I struggled trying not to make him as feminine as my ladies. To leave him with his manly edge. I can not say I mastered it, but I finally got to a place (after much scrubbing) where I thought it was acceptable. It got a Third Place ribbon, so for an early attempt, I'm not complaining. Unf...
This weekend is the Fall Art show for Seacoast Artist's Guild here in Myrtle Beach, SC. It will be one of the few events not canceled due to the wind and rain we're experiencing during the beginning of hurricane season. I've been fortunate enough to finish two pieces that I felt OK about entering. Why is it we rarely feel a piece is actually done? But at the risk of overworking them I'd rather have an almost finished painting than overdone. This is a smallish one. It is oil on wood and about 8" X 10". I also finally did a painting of my husband which I'll post later. I am looking forward to seeing all the other work produced by the various artists. It is always a blast.
